Sunflower Fields – Simple Design – Gorgeous Card. Learn Now. – Radiant Sunflowers – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demo.

Sometimes the simplest card designs can create the biggest impact, especially when you have beautiful patterned paper to work with. Today I’m sharing two cards made with the gorgeous Sunflower Fields Designer Series Paper, and this is a great example of how you can let the DSP do most of the work.

The design is simple, but the three raised panels add dimension and interest, giving these cards a lovely finished look without needing lots of additional stamping or embellishments.

A Simple Sunflower Fields Card Design

For the card bases, I used Cajun Craze and Cherry Cobbler. Both colours work beautifully with the rich autumnal tones in the Sunflower Fields DSP.

I love how choosing a strong colour for the card base helps to frame the patterned paper and makes all those beautiful flowers stand out.

The DSP is definitely the star of these cards. Rather than covering it with lots of embellishments, I wanted to keep the design relatively simple so that the gorgeous floral pattern remained the main feature.

Creating the Three Panels

One of my favourite parts of this card design is the way the DSP has been divided into three panels.

The panels are cut from the same piece of Sunflower Fields DSP, which means the pattern flows across the card. This is a really simple technique, but it creates a much more interesting layout than simply adding one piece of Designer Series Paper to the front of the card.

To add some dimension, I popped each of the three panels up using adhesive foam sheets.

This gives the card a lovely raised effect and creates shadows between the panels. It is such an easy way to add dimension without making the card complicated.

If you don’t have adhesive foam sheets, you could also achieve a similar effect using Stampin’ Dimensionals. The important thing is to raise the panels slightly so that the design has some depth.

Adding the Sentiments

For the sentiments, I used the Sincerely Noted Mix & Match Ephemera Pack.

I really like using ready-made sentiments and ephemera pieces when I’m working with a busy Designer Series Paper pattern. They make adding a greeting quick and easy, while still giving the card a polished look.

For these cards, the sentiments provide a lovely contrast against the floral DSP and help to draw the eye towards the bottom of the card.

The combination of the neutral sentiment on one card and the brighter red sentiment on the other also shows how simply changing the sentiment can give the same basic design a slightly different feel.

Let Your Designer Series Paper Do the Work

This is a great card layout to remember when you have Designer Series Paper that you really love.

You don’t always need lots of stamping, die-cutting and embellishments to create a beautiful handmade card. Sometimes, allowing the DSP to take centre stage is all you need.

The three-panel design is also very versatile. You could use this layout with almost any patterned paper, making it a useful design to keep in your card-making ideas folder.

Why I Love This Card Design

There are three things I particularly like about these cards:

• The Sunflower Fields DSP does most of the decorative work.
• The three panels add interest without making the design complicated.
• The adhesive foam sheets give the card dimension and make the panels stand out.

It is a simple design that would be easy to recreate, even if you’re relatively new to card making.

I also think this would be a great design for making several cards at once. Once you’ve prepared your card bases and cut your DSP into panels, you could create a whole batch of cards and simply change the sentiment for different occasions.
