There is something so special about Christmas cards that have a traditional, handmade feel, and today’s project is a perfect example. This Stitched Season Christmas card combines beautiful patterned paper with a quilt-inspired design to create a festive card that is full of colour and detail.

If you enjoy making Christmas cards but want a design that looks more complicated than it actually is, this is a great project to try.

Create a Quilt-Themed Christmas Card

The star of this card is the A Stitched Season DSP. The gorgeous Christmas patterns work beautifully together to create a quilt-style effect.

I love how the different patterns and colours come together. Although there are lots of little pieces and details to look at, the overall design is surprisingly simple to create.

The Thick Basic White card base gives the card a clean, bright background and allows the colours in the Designer Series Paper to really stand out.

Let the Designer Series Paper Do the Work

One of my favourite things about using patterned paper is that it can do so much of the work for you.

The A Stitched Season DSP contains a lovely mixture of traditional Christmas colours and patterns, making it easy to create a festive project without needing to stamp lots of individual images.

For this card, the patterned paper has been arranged to create a quilt-inspired background. The result is a cosy, traditional Christmas feel that would be perfect for sending to family and friends.

You could also create several cards using the same layout but change which patterns of DSP you use. This is a great way to make a batch of Christmas cards while still giving each card its own individual look.

Add a Simple Christmas Sentiment

To finish the card, I added a Christmas sentiment and punched it out using the Rounded Rectangle Punch.

The rounded shape works particularly well with the geometric quilt-style background because it softens some of the sharper lines in the design.

I also like how the sentiment creates a clear focal point in the centre of the card without covering too much of the beautiful Designer Series Paper.

A Great Christmas Card for Batch Making

If you are planning to make your Christmas cards in batches this year, this design would be a great one to add to your list.

Once you have created the basic layout, you can repeat the design using different pieces of A Stitched Season DSP. You could even make a whole set of cards where each one has a slightly different arrangement of patterns.

This is one of those projects where a simple idea can produce lots of different results.

Why I Love This Stitched Season Card

There are three things I particularly love about this Christmas card:

  • The quilt-inspired design gives the card lots of visual interest.
  • The A Stitched Season DSP provides plenty of colour and pattern without lots of additional stamping.
  • The simple sentiment keeps the design balanced and lets the patterned background shine.

If you love traditional Christmas colours, patterned paper and clever layouts, I think you will really enjoy making this card.

Try Your Own Quilt-Inspired Christmas Card

Why not have a look through your Christmas Designer Series Paper and see whether you could create your own quilt-inspired design?

You don’t have to copy the layout exactly. Try mixing different patterns, changing the colours or arranging the pieces in a different way. You may be surprised at how effective a few small pieces of patterned paper can be when they are brought together.

This would also be a lovely project for using up some of those smaller pieces of Designer Series Paper that are too pretty to throw away.
