If you are looking for easy Christmas card ideas, this Stitched Stocking project is a great way to create a festive card with plenty of detail without making the design overly complicated.

For these cards, I have combined the Stampin’ Up! Stitched Stocking stamp and die set with some beautiful Christmas Designer Series Paper and an embossed background. The result is a traditional Christmas card with lots of texture, colour and handmade charm.

I created two versions, using Real Red and Garden Green for the card bases. Although the layouts are very similar, changing the colour of the card base gives each card its own look.

Creating the Christmas Card Background

For the background of each card, I used the Swirls of Magic Embossing Folder. I love the extra texture this adds to the card.

An embossed background is such an easy way to make a handmade card look more interesting. The subtle swirls and festive pattern provide a lovely backdrop while still allowing the stocking to remain the main feature.

The embossed panel is layered onto the Real Red or Garden Green card base, creating a simple frame around the design.

Making the Stitched Christmas Stocking

The star of these cards is, of course, the Stitched Stocking stamp and die set.

I used the dies to create the stocking shape and then decorated it with pieces of A Stitched Season Designer Series Paper. The different patterns work beautifully together, giving the stocking a fun patchwork appearance.

This is also a great project if you have lots of small pieces of Designer Series Paper left over from other projects. You don’t need large pieces to create this stocking, making it a useful way to use up those treasured scraps.

I particularly like how the different Christmas patterns are brought together within one stocking. The combination of greens, reds and small festive details gives the cards a lovely traditional Christmas feel.

Add a Festive Christmas Sentiment

To finish the stocking, I added a Christmas sentiment above it.

The sentiment sits neatly across the top of the stocking and helps to bring the whole design together. I also added a little holly detail and a pretty bow for an extra festive touch.

The bow is a simple addition, but it really helps to make the stocking look as though it has been carefully wrapped and decorated ready for Christmas!

Measurements

• Real Red / Garden Green Cardstock – A6 Card Base – This is an A4 sheet cut in half, then folded in half.
• Basic White Cardstock – 14.35cm X 10cm X 2 pieces

Real Red or Garden Green?

For the two cards, I used Real Red and Garden Green as the card bases.

Real Red gives the design a traditional and bright Christmas feel, while Garden Green creates a slightly softer, more natural look. Both colours work beautifully with the patterns in A Stitched Season Designer Series Paper.

It is amazing how simply changing the card base colour can give the same basic design a completely different appearance.

An Easy Christmas Card Idea to Try

I think this is a lovely example of how you can create an eye-catching Christmas card by combining a few simple elements.

The Stitched Stocking provides the main focal point, the A Stitched Season Designer Series Paper adds colour and pattern, and the Swirls of Magic Embossing Folder brings in texture.

If you are making several Christmas cards, you could easily use this design as a starting point and change the colours, Designer Series Paper or sentiment to create a whole collection of cards.

It would also be a great project for using up your Christmas paper scraps. Simply choose a selection of coordinating patterns and create a different patchwork stocking for every card.
