Printed Poppy Candle – Painted Poppies

I have fallen in love with the Poppy suite of products in the Spring / Summer catalogue. Here I’ve used the Painted Poppies stamp set to create this printed poppy candle. I’ve not printed a candle in years and was so please with the way it turned out.

Printed Poppy Candle - Painted Poppies
Printed Poppy Candle – Painted Poppies

I’ve shown this candle in the packaging I created, making the packaging will be my next video. I’ve used a very simple white pillar candle that has been sitting in my stash for simply ages. I wanted to create a gift as of course, we can’t go shopping at the moment.

how did i do it?

I used some tissue paper from my stash to make this. If you have bought the shimmer detailed laser cut designer series paper (DSP) you will find tissue paper separating each page. This is a perfect way to upcycle it. I measured the circumference and height of the candle and then cut out a piece of tissue paper to match.

I’ve stamped using an archival quality ink such as stazon so it won’t run when heated. The colouring in did pose a problem to me as I was afraid that it might run when heated or bleed out of the lines. I decided just to use the Stampin’ Write Markers in the aptly named Poppy Parade. This worked perfectly!!! A word of warning though, it doesn’t bleed out of the lines but did go straight through the paper. I coloured in on my grid paper to stop my desk looking like a murder scene!!

Best Dressed Floral Bag – Stampin’ Up!

I have another cute bag for you using the Best Dressed Designer Series Paper (DSP), hence the name best dressed floral bag.

Best Dressed Floral Bag - Stampin' Up!
Best Dressed Floral Bag – Stampin’ Up!

The Best Dressed DSP has makeup and fashion themed patterns on one side and on other are these amazing floral designs. I am quite a tomboy and makeup and fashion have never held much attraction to me. I love the florals though.

This box is what I call pencil case style. It has a magnetic closure but it is the DSP that makes it sing to me. I love this pattern, it is so happy. What are your favourite styles of patterned paper?

I know some people find box making quite difficult to do so I made a template but I will also give you the measurements here.

measurements

  • Old Olive – 7 1/2″ X 10″ – Scored:
    • On the short side at 1/2″, 3″, 4″, 6 1/2″

  • Best Dressed DSP – 2 1/4″ X 5 3/4″ X 2 pieces

Poppy Moments – Die Cut Card – Stampin’ Up!

I absolutely love how this card turned out using the Poppy Moments set of dies. The dies allow you to cut out both the solid image and the highlights allowing you to create these realistic flowers and leaves.

Poppy Moments - Die Cut Card - Stampin' Up!
Poppy Moments – Die Cut Card – Stampin’ Up!

In the UK, red poppies are a symbol of remembrance. I think personally they are also a symbol of the fact the life goes on. I love seeing the poppies in the grass verges in fields every year. The red poppies are so bold and vibrant and are a beautiful pop of colour against the green grass.

This card is perfect for someone who doesn’t like to stamp much as the die cuts do all the talking. I’ve used Real Red and the aptly named Poppy Parade for the poppies. The leaves are Old Olive and Shaded Spruce. I used Crumb Cake as the background colour as I felt white or black was too stark a contrast. The Crumb Cake is a lovely kraft neutral.

measurements

  • Early Espresso A6 Cardbase – This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half
  • Crumb Cake – 14.35cm x 10cm

Under my Umbrella – Stampin’ Blends Markers

I have this cute, bright and sunny card to share with you today. I knew I wanted to get “Under My Umbrella” the minute I saw it in the catalogue. The flowers growing in the wellies are just so dinky.

Under my Umbrella - Stampin' Up!
Under my Umbrella – Stampin’ Up!

I debated what colours to use in this card and eventually went for so saffron, balmy blue, highland heather and old olive. I think they make the card look like a summer’s day.

Everything is coloured in using the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. I love the seamless colouring and easy shading of the Stampin’ Blends. What is your favourite colouring medium? I do love watercolouring but the Blends are great for quick and easy colouring too.

measurements

  • So Saffron A6 Cardbase – This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half.
  • So Saffron Subtles Designer Series Paper – 14.35cm x 10cm

I can’t wait for spring and all the flowers to start coming out. The trees always look so bare without their leaves. I wanted to make a card to remind me of the sunny days that will hopefully come soon.

Dinosaur Card Tutorial – Dino Days

Hello and thank you for stopping by. I have this cute dinosaur card to share with you today. I love this suite of products. It includes a stamp set, dies, enamel shapes and of course designer series paper (DSP).

Dinosaur Card Tutorial - Dino Days
Dinosaur Card Tutorial – Dino Days

This is very much as fantasy dinosaur card. I have matched the colours to the colours of the DSP. The dies cut out everything so there is no fussy cutting needed. In fact, the dies actually cut out the images from one of the sheets of DSP as well so you don’t even need to stamp to make this card if you don’t want to. Super easy and super fun!!!

I think this suite of products would be perfect for a child’s birthday party. You could make party bags, placemats, name cards, thank you cards, etc… The list just goes on. The images are bright and eye-catching to garner interest by little ones with short attention spans.

measurements

  • Pool Party A6 Cardbase (This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • Whisper White – 14.35cm x 10cm

Personally, I’m not a great dinosaur fan. It was never something that interested me as a child. It is strange as we lived around the corner from the National History Museum in London with the famous “Dippy” the dinosaur in the entrance hall but there you go. I, therefore, have no idea of the names of any of these dinosaurs. Perhaps one of you can let me know in the comments section. Do you like dinosaurs?

some other fun projects

I’ve also used the Dinosaur DSP to make a gorgeous mini album that I will be featuring in a couple of weeks time as well.

Tulips in Autumn – Greetings Card Tutorial

I have this simple and clean card to share with you. It features my favourite flowers, Tulips, which I love. I have therefore named it Tulips in Autumn. This stamp is from the “Winds of Change” stamp set which I have already used.

Tulips in Autumn - Greetings Card Tutorial
Tulips in Autumn – Greetings Card Tutorial

I was at the garden centre for lunch recently and the array of Tulips bulbs is mind-blowing. They come in such a fantastic range of colours, shapes and textures. Once upon a single tulip bulb sold for than craftsman’s annual salary. I love looking at all the tulips in Autumn and dreaming of their beauty in the Spring.

This card is much cheaper to make than that. I’ve stamped the tulip in memento black in and coloured it in with the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers. The cotton real red ribbon just gives added interest to the background.

measurements

  • Whisper White A6 Cardbase (This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • Real Red – Brights designer series family stack – 14.35cm x 7.6cm

I love the combination of red and green. I don’t feel it just a Christmas colour. They are opposite sides of the colour wheel and therefore are complimentary colours.

I love floral cards and my favourite, of course, are Tulips. What are your favourite images on cards? Let me know in the comments section. I love reading your comments.

Butterflies and Birthday Wishes Card Tutorial

I have a sweet and simple birthday card featuring butterflies and the Bird Ballard Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Butterflies and Birthday wishes card using the Bird Ballard paper from Stampin' Up!
Butterflies and Birthday wishes card using the Bird Ballard paper from Stampin’ Up!

This card features two things I love, butterflies and flowers. I love walking through the garden and seeing the butterflies flitting about from flower to flower. They are so delicate and beautiful and yet so strong. Seeing a butterfly makes my heart sing and puts a smile on my face.

I like the simplicity and yet the bright vibrancy of this card. The background DSP is quite busy and I felt the sentiment got lost it so I popped it up on the band of daffodil delight card.

Measurements

  • Thick Whisper White A6 Card Base
  • Old Olive cardstock 14.35cm x 10cm
  • Daffodil Delight Cardstock – 9cm x 4.5cm
  • Bird Ballard DSP – 13.85cm x 9cm

As always there is a video of the process below along with the supply list.

While using the Bird Ballard DSP I have fallen more and more in love with it and I hope that these projects will make you fall in love too. Here is a link to another card made using this paper.
