I am in love with the Enduring Beauty bundle. It is amazing!! The stamps, dies and stencils all coordinate to make this gorgeous image. The colouring is super easy due to the matching stencils. This is the perfect set for those who love the look but don’t enjoy to colour in.

I love using layering stencils, they make a card so easily. Layering stencils also allow you to create extra depth and dimension. You can layer simple colours for even greater interest.

I normally use Basic White cardstock but I decided to change things up this time and use Crumb Cake. This is the first time I’ve done this and I am so happy with the effect. Do you stencil on coloured cardstock?

The Loveliest layers masks include a set of stencils that allow you to colour a flower image and leaves. The masks make it very easy to add shading and detail.

I felt there was too much white space on the image so I used a very light colour blended over the whole panel, both white space and image. I used a text stamp to add extra detail in the background. This has been made in two different colours, pink and yellow. Which do you like best?

I love stencils and have an extensive collection. Do I use them enough? Of course not, like most crafters I have stuff I love to have but don’t use. I realised the other day that I haven’t used these stencils and they have been in my stash for nearly a year. I don’t want them to retire and I never used them.

The stencil I used today has these little stripes that repeat. It is perfect for this technique of off-setting the stencil. I’ve used a mixture of colours that I have blended together.

Stencils/masks are a quick and easy way to make a background for your cards. Here I’ve used two of the masks from the Artistic Masks set. I’ve layered them up to create this fun pattern. Layering stencils allow you to add texture and depth of interest to your backgrounds.

These cards are very tonal. I laid the colour down with a blending brush, using the lighter colour first and adding interest with the darker one. I made this card in two different colour ways. Which do you prefer?

Welcome to another Focus Friday project. Today we are looking at using embossing paste through a stencil. This cardstock started off as a plain piece of Gorgeous Grape card. Look how pretty it is now!! One tip is to wash your stencil straight away after using the embossing paste. It is so much easier to clean while the paste is still wet. If you like it dry it is hell to clean.

This turned out so well. I used the snowflake stencil from the Adorning pack of stencils. I used the blending brushes with Balmy Blue and then Pacific Point to make this background. The snowflakes are then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

An Explosion of Colour – Pigment Sprinkles

I have an art journal page to share with you today and it is an explosion of colour. It uses the pigment sprinkles that have been sitting in my stash for months. I love how it came out and wanted to share it with you.

An Explosion of Colour - Pigment Sprinkles
An Explosion of Colour – Pigment Sprinkles

Art journaling makes me happy and I think at times such these we have to especially try to do things that make us happy. The Pigment Sprinkles were launched in the catalogue last June but due to customs issues, we didn’t get them until October. I couldn’t wait to buy them and then, of course, they just sat in my stash. Oh my gosh, I love them. I used them to create both the orange background as well as the blue/purple one.

Art journaling is a great way to let your imagination run free. You can explore colours, themes, techniques and just be free!! I’ve used a number of techniques here. There is stamping, stencilling, heat embossing, fussy cutting and of course the pigment sprinkles.

I normally write my blogs a few weeks ahead of schedule. I am writing this on 25th March, so the second day of the increased restrictions. Life as we used to know it has all but disappeared. The weather when we could go out was grey and wet now, of course, we have glorious sunshine. Typical!! We are lucky to have a big garden by city standards so can still enjoy the outdoors easily. I hope you are keeping safe and well and that my projects and videos are helping to relieve the boredom of days inside.

Dancing in the Rain – Art Journal Page

I have a new art journal page to share with you today. This is a companion piece to my previous page which I will link below. This page is a couple dancing in the rain in the evening. My previous one was a girl swinging in the sunset.

Dancing in the Rain art journal page
Dancing in the Rain art journal page

I used our fluid 100 watercolour paper again which takes colour beautifully. Watercolour painting is very forgiving and I find soothing to the soul. I’ve used reinkers here to paint with. The colours are Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape and Night of Navy. They blend to create this gorgeous purple colour.

I’ve been interested in mixed media for a number of years now. Mixed media is really the application of a mixture of mediums and techniques to create an art piece. I’ve used stamping, watercolouring and stencilling here.

I love to use watercolour but also enjoy painting with acrylic paints. Unfortunately Stampin’ Up! don’t sell acrylic paints but you can mix our reinkers with gesso to create some of your own.

The stamp set I used is one fell in love with the minute I saw it, Silhouette Scenes. It comes with a matching die set as a bundle for a saving of 10% which is always good.

Sunset Silhouette – Art Journal Page

Today I have an art journal page featuring a sunset Silhouette to share with you, Stampin’ Up! style. This page uses the Silhouette Scenes stamps that I love. Stampin’ Up! brought out some new watercolour paper this year. This is my first time using it and it is amazing !!!

Sunset Silhouette - Art Journal Page - Silhouette Scenes - Stampin' Up! Style
Art Journal Page – Silhouette Scenes – Stampin’ Up! Style

To be truthful I wasn’t sure where I was going when I started this page but I love the colours. The watercolour paper makes blending these colours a doodle. I have used So Saffron, Mango Melody and Pumpkin Pie and they go together beautifully to produce this sunset silhouette page.

As with all painting and colouring, the trick is to layer colours, textures and images to achieve your overall picture. You can always add more colour but taking it away again is not so easy!!

This piece has a mixed media feel to it as I have used die cuts, stamps, ink and stencils in the piece. Mixed media art is a piece of artwork that combines various techniques, textures and mediums in one piece as in this sunset silhouette page.
