If you love bright, cheerful cards, this Radiant Sunflowers birthday card is sure to make you smile. Sunflowers are naturally happy flowers, so I wanted to create a card that captured that feeling with bright colours, beautiful stamped flowers and a touch of texture.

For this project, I’ve used the Radiant Sunflowers stamp and die set, along with the Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder to create a gorgeous floral background. The result is a cheerful birthday card that is full of sunshine.

Creating the Sunflower Background

One of my favourite parts of this card is the embossed background. I used the Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder to add lots of beautiful sunflower detail to the background.

The embossed flowers add texture and interest without competing with the colourful stamped and die-cut flowers. I kept the background white, which really helps the bright sunflower colours stand out.

Embossing folders are such an easy way to add another layer of detail to a card. Even when you are working with a fairly simple design, an embossed background can make the finished project look much more detailed and special.

Bright and Happy Sunflowers

The flowers from the Radiant Sunflowers stamp and die set were stamped and then coloured using Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers.

I wanted the flowers to have that classic bright sunflower appearance, so I kept the colours warm, cheerful and vibrant. The combination of yellows and the darker flower centres really makes the sunflowers pop against the white embossed background.

I also coloured the leaves to add some lovely contrast to all those sunny yellow tones.

Once the images were coloured, I used the coordinating dies to cut them out. This makes creating a collection of flowers really easy and gives you lots of flexibility when arranging them on your card.

Choosing a Diagonal Card Design

For this card, I decided to move away from a traditional central design and create a diagonal card layout instead.

I love how the flowers travel diagonally across the card. It gives the design movement and draws your eye from one corner of the card to the other.

I used Daffodil Delight for one card base and Mossy Meadow for the other. Both colours work beautifully with the sunflower images.

The Daffodil Delight card base adds even more sunshine to the design, while Mossy Meadow provides a deeper contrast that works particularly well with the green leaves.

Adding the Birthday Sentiment

For the sentiment, I used the Rounded Rectangle Punch to create a simple shape that would sit neatly amongst the flowers.

The sentiment reads “Wishing You So Much Happiness”, which I think is perfect for a bright and cheerful birthday card.

Keeping the sentiment area fairly simple allows the flowers to remain the main feature of the card while still giving the recipient a clear birthday message.

Why I Love This Sunflower Card

I really enjoyed putting this card together because it has so many elements that I love about papercrafting: stamping, colouring, die cutting, embossing and arranging lots of pretty floral pieces.

The Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder adds wonderful texture, while the Radiant Sunflowers stamp and die set provides all the beautiful flowers and leaves.

I also love how changing the card base colour changes the overall feel of the design. The bright Daffodil Delight version feels wonderfully sunny, while the Mossy Meadow version has a slightly deeper and more natural look.

If you have the Radiant Sunflowers bundle in your craft room, why not try creating your own version? You could change the colours, alter the arrangement of the flowers or experiment with your own diagonal design.
