Tone on Tone Effect – How to Achieve it with Stencils – Happiest of Birthday – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up D

Welcome to this Focus Friday post. Today we are looking at using stencils to give a tone on tone effect on cards. You can see this effect in the picture above. It gives some added interest to the background of the card and helps makes the sentiment really pop. For extra interest, I have added a velum doily to the top and bottom of the sentiment. This is an extra layer of interest but you can still the background behind it.

Make a Magnetic Closure Christmas Gift Box – Brightly Gleaming – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator based in Lincoln UK.

I’ve used the Brightly Gleaming designer series paper (DSP) here to make these cute little gift boxes. I think the copper foiling really pops against both the Real Red and Melon Mambo pink. These boxes were both made using scraps of DSP from making another gift box which I will feature shortly on this blog.

I used small neodymium earth magnets that I got online for the magnetic closure. I covered both with some DSP so that the magnets were not so strong. The stamp set is Wrapped in Christmas and has some matching dies as well. This sentiment also matches the 1 1/2″ circle punch perfectly as well. I love punches and tend to use them rather than dies whenever I can.

measurements

  • Real Red / Melon Mambo – 8″ X 7 1/2″, Scored on the:
    • 8″ side at 1″, 2″ & 7″
    • 7 1/2″ side at 1/2″, 3″, 4″ & 6 1/2″
  • Brightly Gleaming DSP –
    • 4 3/4″ X 2 1/4″ X 1 piece
    • 4 3/4″ X 3/4″ X 2 pieces
    • 2 1/4″ X 3/4″ X 2 pieces

Stars in the Night - Christmas Blessings - Stampin' Up!
Stars in the Night – Christmas Blessings – Stampin’ Up!

This card is simple but elegant. The designer series paper (DSP) is Brightly Gleaming. It has carried over from last year’s Christmas catalogue. I love all the copper foiling and have picked this up in using come copper foil sheet to mat my sentiment on .

I think this is a perfect card to make in bulk. It takes a few minutes only to make but is stunning and of course handmade. I don’t work in an office anymore but this is definitely one I would have made as my office Christmas card.

measurements

  • Thick Whisper White A6 Cardbase – This is a A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half
  • Brightly Gleaming DSP – 14.35cm X 10cm
  • Whisper White – 10.5cm X 3.5cm
  • Copper Foil Sheet – 11cm X 4cm

Mini Chocolate Wrapped Gift – Stampin’ Up!

I have this yummy mini chocolate wrapped gift to share with you today. This is a very simple project but I would be very pleased if I were to receive it.

Mini Chocolate Wrapped Gift - Stampin' Up!
Mini Chocolate Wrapped Gift – Stampin’ Up!

I bought a little pack of 5 chocolate bars from the supermarket with the intention of using them in a project and this is what I came up with. I have used the Night Before Christmas Designer Series Paper (DSP) here to wrap each chocolate bar individually. The ribbon is in the gorgeous classic weave ribbon that has “Merry Christmas” in two different fonts. I’ve heat embossed the sentiment to match it.

Measurements

  • Night Before Christmas DSP – This DSP is 6″ x 6″. I’ve used the full width of the paper and cut the other side to 11cm

I think a gift such as this would be perfect for a little pressie to work colleagues or neighbours. It looks beautiful but is very easy to make. It is also a great way to use up scraps of DSP which is always good.

As usual, there is a video tutorial and supply list below.

Large Gift Box Tutorial – Brightly Gleaming

Large Gift Box Tutorial – Brightly Gleaming

The Brightly Gleaming DSP is gorgeous. One side of each sheet has copper foiling. I have used two different designs here to give you options when making this box. This box measures 6″ X 4″ X 2″. This paper is part of the Brightly Gleaming suite of products that includes the Christmas Gleaming stamp set and two ornament punches.

The bauble and sentiment have been heat embossed with copper embossing powder to match the paper and copper foil sheet. I love the way all the colours co-ordinate in the paper, inks and ribbon.

measurements

  • Pretty Peacock – 10″ X 8″ Scored at 2″ on all sides
  • Brightly Gleaming DSP 10 1/16″ X 8 1/16″ Scored at 2″ on all sides
  • Very Vanilla strip 2″ wide

The strip of Very Vanilla is the full length of an A4 sheet but was still too short as this is a large gift box. I had to add in an extra little piece that is hidden on the bottom of the box.

Copper Embossed Birthday Card – Stampin’ Up!

I have a very simple and easy copper embossed birthday card. Heat embossing is magic. I will never forget the first time I saw this dull powder turn shiny and metallic.

Copper embossed birthday card using the Label me Pretty stamp set from Stampin' Up
Copper embossed birthday card using the Label Me Pretty stamp set from Stampin’ Up

This card is so clean and bright. I love the way everything coordinates so beautifully with Stampin’ Up! The copper embossed sentiment is enough of a wow element, so nothing else is needed.

I think this is a great card for a novice crafter as it allows you to make something you can be proud of with not a lot of supplies or special skills needed.

measurements

  • A6 Blueberry Bushel cardbase – (A6 cardbase is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • In Colour 2018 – 2020 family designer series paper (DSP) – 14.35cm x 10cm

As I type this, it is the start of the bank holiday weekend and for once the sun is predicted to keep on shining. I hope they are right. By the time this goes live we all know. Here in Lincoln, it is the Steampunk Asylum weekend so I will be going out tomorrow to see the huge variety of costumes on display.

Come Sail Away altered notebook
Come Sail Away altered notebook

I am not normally a great sea person. I did think long and hard about buying this set but I’m really glad I did as I love it now. The designer series paper (DSP) is beautiful and is great for cards as well as altered items and mini albums.

measurements

  • Night of Navy cardstock – 8 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ scored on the long side at 4 1/8″ from each side
  • Come Sail Away DSP 3″ X 3 3/4″

I love altering little notebooks, candles and such like. I have a box full of things waiting to be “improved” through crafting. The little notebook used here is a handy jotter from Wilko and cost only pennies. This is a lovely cheap project to make to include as part of a party bag.
