An Easy Celebration Card – Diamond / Bull’s Eye – Design

If you’re in the mood for a fun and easy papercrafting project, this celebration card is just the thing! With its bold diamond (or bull’s eye) layout and bright, cheerful elements, it’s a great way to send joyful wishes for birthdays, graduations, or any special moment worth celebrating.

What makes this design stand out is the playful combination of layers and patterns. The diamond shape instantly catches the eye, especially when paired with florals and a central stamped image. I used Garden Green as the base to add a natural, grounded feel, perfectly complementing the Lovely Garden patterned paper.

At the heart of the design is the sweetest little bee, stamped using the Choose Happy stamp set. I coloured it with Stampin’ Write markers in Pool Party and Daffodil Delight for a fresh, springtime vibe. The bee’s little trail adds a sense of movement and whimsy, while the “LET’S CELEBRATE” sentiment keeps things versatile for all kinds of occasions.

Fussy Cut Patterned Paper. – Create a Simple Birthday Card

Fussy Cut Patterned Paper. – Create a Simple Birthday Card

Fussy Cut Patterned Paper. – Create a Simple Birthday Card – Simply Said – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demo

Today, I’m sharing a cheerful birthday card that’s all about turning your patterned paper into a fabulous focal point! This project features the stunning Lovely Garden patterned paper, which I fussy cut to create the vibrant floral cluster you see front and centre.

Fussy Cut Patterned Paper. - Create a Simple Birthday Card
Fussy Cut Patterned Paper. – Create a Simple Birthday Card

Card Details

This card is a lovely blend of layered colours and textures. I chose the following cardstock colours to complement the bold floral imagery:

  • Melon Mambo – bright and punchy, perfect for a celebratory mood
  • Fresh Freesia – soft and playful, adding contrast and balance
  • Cloud Cover – a gentle neutral that grounds the design
  • Blueberry Bushel – a rich, bold base that makes everything pop

To create this card, I started by fussy cutting the beautiful floral image from the Lovely Garden designer series paper (DSP). I layered it over two angled cardstock rectangles in Melon Mambo and Fresh Freesia for a playful, offset look. The Cloud Cover panel softens the background and allows the florals to shine.

I finished it off with a simple “Happy Birthday” sentiment, a few sparkly gems, and a bow made from white twine for texture and charm.

Why Fussy Cutting?

Fussy cutting is such a satisfying technique when you want to give your patterned papers extra life. Instead of letting that gorgeous floral print fade into the background, I gave it a chance to be the star of the show. It’s also a budget-friendly way to create embellishments without needing dies or stamps!

Bold Birthday Card. Easy Tutorial. Thankful Garden Bundle – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demo – Lincoln UK

Looking for a quick but eye-catching handmade birthday card? This bold and beautiful card uses the Thankful Garden stamp, stencil, and die bundle from Stampin’ Up!, and it’s perfect for crafters of all levels. With the help of blending brushes, layering stencils, and colourful background paper, this design comes together in no time—and makes a big impact!

Bold Birthday Card. Easy Tutorial. Thankful Garden Bundle – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demo – Lincoln UK

Step-by-Step Tutorial

1. Create the Background

The background of this card is made super vibrant with a panel from the Full of Life DSP. The bold, radiant lines bring instant energy and dimension to the card without any extra effort. Simply trim to size and adhere to a white card base.

2. Stencil the Floral Image

Next, grab your Thankful Garden stencil set and stamp the floral image in a light waterproof ink. Using blending brushes, add color through the coordinating layering stencils. This makes coloring the image fun and foolproof. I used cheerful yellows for the flowers and fresh greens for the leaves.

Tip: Use a light touch when blending for a soft gradient, or layer more ink for extra vibrancy.

3. Die Cut & Frame It

Once your floral image is coloured, cut it out using the coordinating dies. I layered the flowers on a textured frame die-cut from white cardstock to give the design some depth and structure.

4. Add the Sentiment

The sentiment “It’s Your Birthday” is from the Saying Something Ephemera Pack—already pre-cut and ready to go! I popped it up on foam tape for dimension.

5. Finishing Touches

To finish the card, I added a few sparkly embellishments for a little extra birthday shine.

Measurements

  • Thick White Cardstock – A6 Card Base – This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half
  • Full of Life designer series paper (DSP) – 14.35cm X 10cm.

Ink Blending Tips for a Seamless Background

I used ink blending for this card to create a soft, seamless background. Here’s my top tip:
Take your time and use a light hand. It’s easier to build up the colour gradually than to remove it if it gets too dark.

I typically use small blending brushes for precision, but any size works—just layer the colour until you achieve the look you want.
