The Inspiration Behind the Design

I wanted a card that felt like summer in an envelope—sunshine yellow, floral whimsy and a playful interactive element. The new Layered Thoughts stamp set delivers bold, sketch‑style sentiments that pair perfectly with a rainbow of sequins. By teaming it with Floral Delight Designer Series Paper and the Sunshine Vibes dies, I could spotlight both colour and movement in one simple layout.

Product Snapshot & Colour Palette

  • Stamp Set: Layered Thoughts
  • Dies: Sunshine Vibes (for that fabulous arched rainbow)
  • Card Base: Old Olive – a fresh, grounding green
  • Ink: Daffodil Delight – pure sunshine in a pad
  • DSP: Floral Delight – soft blooms and a subtle linen texture
  • Window Sheet: Stampin’ Up!’s acetate for shaker cards
  • Shaker Mix: Sequins from my crafty stash

These shades work together to keep the design cohesive while letting the interactive rainbow steal the show.

Building the Rainbow Shaker Element

  1. Die‑Cut the Arches – Centre the Sunshine Vibes rainbow on Floral Delight DSP and run it through your die‑cutting machine. Keep the negative panel for the card front and save the arches for another project.
  2. Create the Window – Adhere a Window Sheet behind the die‑cut panel so the entire rainbow aperture is covered and ready to corral the shaker pieces.
  3. Add Dimension – Line the back of the panel with foam adhesive strips, following the rainbow curve to seal the arch. This ensures the sequins stay in place when shaken. If you take the backing off the foam adhesive strips first, they are much easier to manipulate.
  4. Fill the Wells – Drop your sequin mixes into the arch cavity. Use just enough to move freely without overcrowding.
  5. Seal the Shaker – Place a layer of Basic White cardstock over the foam adhesive to trap the shaker mix, then flip to admire your new rainbow confetti window.

Stamping Crisp Sentiments with Layered Thoughts

To keep the greeting bold and legible against the lively background, stamp “Happy Birthday” from Layered Thoughts in Daffodil Delight onto Basic White. For extra pop, double‑stamp (using a Stamparatus or stamp platform) to deepen the colour and mimic the textured sketch lines of the font.

Assembly & Finishing Touches

  • Mat the shaker panel onto an Old Olive card base for a slim border that frames the florals.
  • Scatter a few spare sequins on the card front to echo the movement inside the shaker and draw the eye across the design.
