Scraps – Using Your Scraps – Follow Your Art

I have a card to share with you today made with scraps. The designer series paper (DSP) is so beautiful, it would be a shame to waste any of it. The Follow Your Art DSP is made for crafters as it features lots of crafty items such as ribbon and glue guns.

Scraps used to make a birthday card. All supplies are from Stampin' Up!
Scraps used to make a birthday card. All supplies are from Stampin’ Up!

I feel it is very important to use your scraps before they build up into a huge pile that is daunting to use. DSP is not cheap and I don’t want to waste a piece if I can help it.

I’ve used strips of the Follow Your Art DSP that I cut to size as needed. I only used adhesive in the middle of each strip so that I could tuck and layer as suited me.

measurements

  • Pacific Point cardbase – A6 – (This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half
  • Whisper White – 14.35cm x 10cm

This card is part of my drive to use what I have rather than buy new stuff and never use it. I am determined that by the time the Annual Catalogue retires I will have used everything I bought from it. Most years I find that I have a ton of DSP that is retired but not this year. I am using it and enjoying it too.

Elephants – Baby Card – Wildly Happy Stamp Set

I have a baby elephants card to share with you today. This card uses the Wildly Happy stamp set I won in Prize Patrol back in April at Onstage Local in Telford. I am happy as this is a cute set featuring parents and babies.

Elephant baby card using the Wildly Happy stamp set from Stampin' Up!
Elephant baby card using the Wildly Happy stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

Smokey Slate Light and Dark Stampin’ Blends are being used to colour in these elephants. They are alcohol markers and they blend beautifully. It is so easy to achieve shading and depth of interest with these markers.

These elephants speak to me as they remind me of home. I am born in the UK but my mother was born in South Africa and all my maternal family are still there. When I was younger we went to the Kruger National Park. I remember seeing the elephants crossing the road in front of our car.

measurements

  • Granny Apple Cardbase – A6 – (A6 is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • Whisper White – 3 1/4″ X 51/4″
  • Granny Apple Green Designer Series Paper (DSP) 3″ x 5″

The other images in this set are a fox, rabbits and a cute panda. They are great for many styles of cards but in particular babies.

I do enjoy colouring in whether it be with Stampin’ Blends, watercolours or even acrylic paints. It is so soothing and therapeutic.

There is a video tutorial and supply list below.

Copper Embossed Birthday Card – Stampin’ Up!

I have a very simple and easy copper embossed birthday card. Heat embossing is magic. I will never forget the first time I saw this dull powder turn shiny and metallic.

Copper embossed birthday card using the Label me Pretty stamp set from Stampin' Up
Copper embossed birthday card using the Label Me Pretty stamp set from Stampin’ Up

This card is so clean and bright. I love the way everything coordinates so beautifully with Stampin’ Up! The copper embossed sentiment is enough of a wow element, so nothing else is needed.

I think this is a great card for a novice crafter as it allows you to make something you can be proud of with not a lot of supplies or special skills needed.

measurements

  • A6 Blueberry Bushel cardbase – (A6 cardbase is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • In Colour 2018 – 2020 family designer series paper (DSP) – 14.35cm x 10cm

As I type this, it is the start of the bank holiday weekend and for once the sun is predicted to keep on shining. I hope they are right. By the time this goes live we all know. Here in Lincoln, it is the Steampunk Asylum weekend so I will be going out tomorrow to see the huge variety of costumes on display.

Happy Tails – A Card for Dog Lovers

I have a very simple and easy doggy card to share with you using the Happy tails set from Stampin’ Up!. This set has a great matching punch. I love punches as they are so easy to use and make cardmaking so quick and easy.

Happy Tails stamp set, perfect for a dog lovers card.
“Happy Tails” stamp set, perfect for a dog lovers card.

This card is super cute with the little paw prints leading from the doggy to the sentiment. I just love it. To be frank I am more a cat person nowadays that a dog person. Saying that I still do enjoy watching the dogs running free in the park. Animals do know how to live in the moment and not worry about the future. I find that so beautiful to watch.

measurements

  • Soft Suede A6 Cardbase – (This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half again)
  • Neutrals family stack DSP – Crumb Cake – 14.35cm X 10cm

If you are not a dog person there is a similar set with a matching punch called Nine Lives. I have done a project with this set which you can find here.

There is a video tutorial and supply list below as always.

Simple Card – Perfect for a Man

I have a simple card to share with you today using the Waterfront stamp set from Stampin’ Up! The card is showing a view of a forest lake and has no sentiment so can be used for multiple occasions.

A simple card using the waterfront stamp set from Stampin' Up!
A simple card using the waterfront stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

This stamp set has been sitting on my shelf for the last year, unloved and unused and I have decided that is changing. I am determined to use all my sets this year and not let any retire uninked.

The Waterfront set creates a scene. This can be a simple one as shown above or a more complex one with layered elements. I have to admit that this is not my normal style and it took ages to come up with something I was happy with.

Measurement

  • Thick Whisper White – A6 Cardbase (A6 is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • Real Red – 10cm x 14.35cm

I have not given measurements for the other pieces because I stamped the scene first and then cut it out. The mat pieces are cut 0.5 larger each way than the next piece. I hope that makes sense. If not, there is the video below showing exactly how to do this.

My question for you today is what is your favourite style of card? Do you prefer a scene card, one with a large sentiment or a floral one? Let me know in the comments below!!

Everything Amazing Birthday Card

I have this easy and simple birthday card to share with you today using the Everything Amazing stamp set. This is a great set as you can customise your sentiment around the main word Amazing.

The Everything Amazing stamp set from Stampin' Up! is used for this simple birthday card
The Everything Amazing stamp set from Stampin’ Up! is used for this simple birthday card

I love everything about this card. It is simple and elegant. I love Bermuda Bay which is the colour in the background. The stamp stamps a shaded grey rather than jet black but I prefer the jet black as it gives better contrast and makes the sentiment pop. I coloured it in with the black stampin’ write marker.

measurements

  • A6 card base is thick whisper white. (A6 is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • Bermuda Bay Designer Series Paper (DSP) Brights family stack – 14.35cm x 10cm

I love big bold sentiments such as this one as I feel they are everything a simple card needs to make them stand out.

What type of cards do you like? Do you prefer everything simple and streamlined or do you prefer a more detailed style with embellishments? Let me know below!!

I am really glad that is has cooled down at last. Normally, I cope with the heat fine but when it gets over 30 degrees with the high humidity we experience in the UK that is pushing it. My maternal family is from South Africa. I find the dry heat in Pretoria much easier to cope with and can be in long sleeves still at 25 degrees. Consequently, I haven’t done much crafting this week and my videos may be a few days delayed.

I have a video as usual which is below with the supply list.

Punched Circles – Birthday Card

This is a simple and easy card made using punched circles in varying sizes. This is a great way to use up all your scrap pieces of cardstock and make something beautiful as well.

Punched Circle Birthday Card using supplies from Stampin' Up!
Punched Circle Birthday Card using supplies from Stampin’ Up!

I love this card as it uses minimal supplies but gives a great wow effect. As it makes use of punched circles, it is a perfect card to make with young children.

The theme of this card is circles. You can make a huge variety of matching stationery such as invitations, envelopes and goody bags. I truly believe that we need to get kids involved when they are young in various crafts so that these skills and hobbies aren’t lost. I know I would much prefer a child playing with ink and paper than stuck in front of a tv.

Measurements

  • Real Red card stock – A6 card base (A6 is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half)
  • Whisper White – 14.35cm x 10cm

I think this type of card would also work with different coloured punched butterflies. I am going to try it and if it works I will share it with you.

Primary colours make this card sing. Primary colours are red, blue and yellow and the contrast and complement each other perfectly. Secondary colours are orange, green and purple. The colour wheel does help to match colours together.

I love to use coloured card bases with a white mat that gives a little border around the card. Do you use coloured card bases or do you prefer white? I like to frame my images on my card as I feel it just makes the whole project look more complete.

Rose Birthday Card – A Beautiful Friendship

I am sharing this beautiful rose birthday card with you today, which is made using my favourite colour, Melon Mambo. I love this pink as does my mother. The vibrant bold colour shouts out to you.

Rose Birthday card using the Beautiful Friendship stamp set from Stampin' Up!
Floral Birthday card using the Beautiful Friendship stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

I have used the Beautiful Friendship stamp set from Stampin’ Up! which is a gorgeous stamp set with a lovely mix of images and sentiments. I love the two rose like images that I have used here. Normally roses aren’t my favourite flower but I do love them on this card.

We have a beautiful climbing red rose outside the front door. This year, it has flowered the best of the 4 summers we have been in Lincoln. It was packed with gorgeous big red roses and of course lots of thorns!!

I like this card as it is so simple to make. It really is just ink, stamps and paper. I have stamped the floral images using ink pads but they could have equally have been stamped using the Stampin’ Write markers. I have used the markers again to stamp the leaves. The markers are very useful as I can use them to colour in, stamp and watercolour paint. I love tools that are so versatile and give me more “bang for my buck”.

measurements

  • A6 Melon Mambo card base – (A6 is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half
  • Whisper White – 14.35cm x 10cm

I had a look online and found out that white roses stand for purity and innocence. In total contrast, a red rose means passion and love whereas a pink rose stands for appreciation or perfect happiness. I felt this was symbolic for a birthday card. A birthday is a day that hopefully brings you happiness and a day to appreciate that you have made another year.

I have a video and supply list below as usual.

Inspiring Iris – Birthday Card Tutorial

I have a floral card to share with you today featuring this beautiful Inspiring Iris stamp set from Stampin’ Up!

Inspiring Iris Birthday Card using supplies from Stampin' Up!
Inspiring Iris Birthday Card using supplies from Stampin’ Up!

I love this stamp set. Inspiring Iris is a two-step stamp set but I have chosen to colour it freehand with a blender pen and Stampin Write markers. I love purple irises as they are so vibrant and strong. I used to see them every year when I went to the Chelsea Flower Show as they are the backbone of many gardens.

The colour Gorgeous Grape is divine because it’s such a deep and majestic colour. I would love to have a dress in this colour with silver heels. If I can find some wool in this colour I might knit myself a winter hat. I can knit and would like to get back into knitting as well as my paper crafting.

measurements

  • Gorgeous Grape Cardstock – A6 card base – (A4 sheet cut in half on the long edge, and then folded in half on the long side)
  • Whisper White Cardstock – 14.35cm x 10cm

As previously mentioned I coloured this in with a blender pen and the Stampin’ Write Markers. I put some colour down on a stamping block with a marker and then picked it with the blender pen. You can see this in more detail in the accompanying video below.

So my question for today is what is your favourite medium to colour in with? Do you prefer alcohol markers, watercolour pencils or Stampin’ Write Markers?

GateFold Card – Magnolia Lane

I have a gatefold card to share with you today using the ever lovely Magnolia Lane designer series paper (DSP). Generally speaking, I’m not a fan of fancy folds with lots of frills and trims. I prefer to play with colour and texture. I gave it go and I’m quite pleased with the way it turned out.

Gate fold card using the Magnolia Lane designer series paper from Stampin' Up!
Gate fold card using the Magnolia Lane designer series paper from Stampin’ Up!

I love the Magnolia Lane DSP. Currently, I’m making a paper bag mini album using this paper and have nearly finished my first packet so am off to order more shortly.

measurements

  • Mossy Meadow cardstock – A5 – (A5 is just an A4 sheet cut in half on the long side) – Score at 5.25cm on each side – I just used my trimmer to score it.
  • Magnolia Lane DSP – 10cm x 14.35cm
  • Whisper White cardstock – 10cm x 14.35cm

I’ve used the coordinating stamp set Good Morning Magnolia to stamp some flowers and foliage on the inside of this gatefold card. These stamps lend themselves beautifully to being coloured in with the Stampin Blends. I really enjoyed this part of the card as I adore colouring in.

I’m not sure I will do another gatefold card as I found it difficult to decorate and I don’t feel it’s my style. Do you have a particular style? Let me know in the comments.
