This card is totally out of my comfort zone. I’m not generally a seaside type of person. I prefer to explore historical areas and learn about how people live. I’m really pleased with how this turned out. I love the waves dies. You can do so much with them. I plan to use them again with lots of different techniques.

As a teenager, I remember visiting the lighthouse at Cape Point with my Granny. My mother and Aunt climbed to the top and stayed downstairs as I was afraid of heights. This lighthouse reminds me of those special memories.

Welcome to this Focus Friday post. Today we are looking at using stencils to give a tone on tone effect on cards. You can see this effect in the picture above. It gives some added interest to the background of the card and helps makes the sentiment really pop. For extra interest, I have added a velum doily to the top and bottom of the sentiment. This is an extra layer of interest but you can still the background behind it.

Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana are two of my favourite colours. They go so well together alongside Pool Party. I’ve kept this card in those tones and love the outcome.

I myself love to watch crafting videos on YouTube. Normally I would just add my sentiment to this background without much embellishment. I’m trying to move out of my comfort zone. I’ve used two punches, the spring and the bough punch to create these embellishments in coordinating colours.

Daffodils How to Water Colour with Ink Pads – Daffodil Daydream – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – Lincoln UK.

This month, the Focus Friday videos have been concentrating on colouring. Today we are looking a colouring with ink pads and water painters. You can also use a reinker. I tend to add a dot of reinker to the lid of the ink pads. I pick this colour up with my water painter. Don’t touch your brush to the actual ink pad though.

Am important consideration when watercolouring is what paper to use. I use either shimmer white cardstock or our Fluid 100 watercolour paper. If you use Basic White you will find the paper will pill. You need a paper that will stand up to the amount of water you will be using. Watercolour paper will have a texture to it so it is useful to use the Stamparatus get to a crisp clean image. I used Stazon ink to stamp as it’s permanent.

Welcome to another Focus Friday Project. Every month I chose a certain product or group of tecninques and each Friday for that month we focus on one specific technique. This month it has been embossing folders. Today we are looking at embossing onto an inked background.

I used a blending brush to ink the background first with Petal Pink and then Magenta Madness. I tried to get a varied mix of colours. The background was then embossed with the new Hive 3D embossing folder. The ink blending really highlights all the gorgeous texture from the embossing folder.

I hope this finds you well. This year I’ve decided to shake things on my blog. I will still post three times a week as normal, so don’t worry. Today I introduce to you my first offering in a new series called “Focus Friday”. Let me explain.

Each month this year we will be focusing on a different tool or product. Each Friday we will try out a different technique with that product or tool. For January I have chosen embossing folders. Each Friday this month we will make a card using an embossing folder in a different way.

Today we are using the embossing folder in the most simple way to add interest to the background. I’ve paired it with a gorgeous floral frame from the Eden dies and a simple sentiment.

I love background stamps. I have a huge collection and never purge any of them. They are so useful to create easy backgrounds in cardmaking, scrapbooking and of course art journaling. The gems are the Wonderful Gems and I’ve used them to look like berries scattered through the foliage. You could also heat emboss the Festive Foliage stamp set and then colour them in using your watercolour pencils. It would look fabulous.

I love this card as the strips of paper are meant to be wonky. The imperfect lines make this card look fabulous. I cut the strips at different angles with no measuring, no right or wrong. I just went for it. There is a little gap between each strip so they really pop from each other. The large sentiment and some foil sheet and bingo, you have a really great card.

How is everyone doing? Only a few weeks until Christmas. Are you excited? Yes, I am. I love the build-up to Christmas with all the lovely music, pretty lights and of course Christmas movies.

Here is a snowflake card I have to share with you today. I heat embossed the snowflakes with white embossing powder. They look so vibrant against the Night of Navy background. If you use a white craft ink it will never look as bright as white heat embossing. I used rhinestones in the centre of each snowflake for that extra bling effect!!
