Using a Sentiment to Make a Background

Using a Sentiment to Make a Background – Holly Jolly Wishes – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – Lincoln UK.

I just used one simple sentiment, repeatedly stamped to make this background. It’s quite effective. I stamped using versamark ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. This gives a tone on tone effect but also some dimension to the background. The focal image is a journalling card from the Gingerbread & Peppermint Memory & More pack. Easy card to make and easy to repeat.

Simple One Layer Card – Heat Embossing & Stamping – Evergreen Elegance – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator – Lincoln UK

This is a really easy Christmas card to make. The Evergreen Elegance stamp set has a few trees of different sizes and heights to make your own forest. I stamped in Shaded Spruce as I love the lovely vibrant, saturated green it gives. The top of the card looked a little bare so I heat embossed the sentiment and stars in gold embossing powder. It wasn’t always easy to see the versamark ink for the stars, I can tell you.

Make a Christmas Card with a Secret Message / Tag – Sweet Stocking – Holly Jolly Wishes – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up Demonstrator Lincoln UK.

I’ve made this style of card a number of times now. I just love the idea of the place for a hidden tag or gift card. The paper I used this time is the Sweet Stocking Designer Series Paper (DSP). It’s so cute that I didn’t want to cover it up with too many embellishments. I really wanted to let this paper sing good and loud.

Didn’t this turn out well? I love it. I heat embossed the snowflakes with white embossing powder. This is the best way to get a bright white colour on a coloured background. If you use white craft ink the effect is still muted and not bright white. The snowflake stamp is one little stamp that I stamped and stamped again. Just make sure you keep turning the stamp around to change the orientation. This makes sure it doesn’t look repetitive.

How to Colour the Poinsettia Petals Stamp Set – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up Demonstrator – Lincoln UK.

I absolutely love the Poinsettia Petals stamp set. It carried over from the catalogue last year and I was so pleased. If you have read my blog before you will know I adore poinsettias and colouring. This card is a match made in heaven for me. I used the Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers to colour. I put a talking book and spent a lovely, relaxing time colouring in.

The Stampin’ Blends come in combo packs of a light and dark of each colour. If I wanted more shading I used more than one colour eg I used Real Red and Cherry Cobbler for the red and Olive and Mossy Meadow for the green.

At first glance, background stamps can be quite intimidating. They are so big and take up so much space on a card. You can sometimes feel unsure how to use them in a way that doesn’t overpower everything. Tone on tone stamping in the background is a great way to use background stamps. It gives interest in the background but doesn’t detract from the focal image. That is what I’ve done here.

I love the Gingerbread & Peppermint Designer Series Paper (DSP) as it has all these wonderful images that can easily be cut out to make a ton of embellishments. No need for an extra die cut pack. You can just use what you have already and have coordinating stuff. This paper also comes with a stamp and matching die set that will further extend the life of this collection and give you so many options to create.

I love poinsettias. We have a few in the house. My mother has managed to keep them alive through the whole year and they turn red again in the Christmas period. I always want to buy new ones but we don’t have the space to keep them all alive throughout the whole year. We have some fake ones in three vases on the hall table and they look amazing even if they are fake.

I will confess this wasn’t my idea. I was struggling with an idea for a little gift box and so of course I went hunting on Pinterest for inspiration. So, I saw this cute gift box and this is my version. Thank you so much to whoever thought of this first, I love it.

What sweets or chocolates would you put in this cutie? I have to say I don’t eat much chocolate or sweets unless I’m having a period of low blood sugar called a hypo. I’m a type 1 diabetic by the way. I never can match my insulin to the sugar in sweets so just avoid it. It’s just easier for me since I don’t have a sweet tooth. If I had to chose I would put in celebrations though. Let me know your choices!

I always make myself a new bookmark for Christmas. This is what I came up with this year. I love this cute Father Christmas from the So Jolly set. He is coloured in using the Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers and then fussy cut. He really pops against the background I think. I added some subtle shimmer sequins for some bling and voila, it’s’ done!!
