A Cheerful Christmas Scene

For this card, I wanted to capture the fun and whimsy of Christmas, so I reached for Santa, his trusty elf, and a friendly snowman. These images work beautifully together to create a light-hearted festive scene that is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Colouring with Stampin’ Blends

The images are all coloured in using the Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers. They’re one of my favourite tools because they make shading and blending so simple. It’s an easy way to bring stamped images to life, and the process of colouring is wonderfully relaxing. In fact, this is one of those projects where you can sit back with a cuppa, enjoy the creative flow, and forget about the busyness of the season for a while.

Video Tutorial Included

If you’d like to follow along step by step, I’ve recorded a video tutorial explaining the colouring techniques I used. Whether you’re new to alcohol markers or simply want some inspiration, the video will help you create your own fun and festive characters with ease.

How to Make an Interlocking Gift Box – Step by Step Tutorial – Nest of Winter – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demo – Lincoln UK.

If you’re looking for a unique and eye-catching way to present small gifts, this Interlocking Gift Box is the perfect choice. It’s practical, pretty, and features a clever closure that’s sure to impress. Today, I’m using the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper (DSP), which is absolutely perfect for festive makes and nature-inspired designs.

The boxes are created in Garden Green and Cherry Cobbler, two rich, classic Christmas colours that work beautifully together. The star of this project, though, is the interlocking closure—made using the nested banners from the Stylish Shapes dies. This closure is both decorative and functional, keeping the box securely shut while adding a striking layered detail to the front.

How to Make an Interlocking Gift Box – Step by Step Tutorial – Nest of Winter – Crafting with Ashee – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demo – Lincoln UK.

Why You’ll Love This Interlocking Gift Box

This project is not only fun to make but also endlessly customisable. You can create them in any colour scheme or patterned paper to suit birthdays, weddings, or seasonal occasions. The Nests of Winter DSP is filled with charming woodland birds, pinecones, and festive greenery, giving the box a warm and cosy feel.

The size is perfect for holding small treats, jewellery, or other thoughtful gifts, making it ideal for Christmas giving. And because the closure is part of the decoration, there’s no need for extra ribbon or magnets—just pure paper engineering magic!

How the Interlocking Closure Works

The closure is made from two banner die-cuts that slide together, one attached to each side of the box lid. When the banners overlap, they ‘lock’ in place, holding the box closed. It’s a clever yet simple technique that adds a real ‘wow’ factor without being complicated to make.

measurements

Tips for Success

  • Score and burnish all your folds sharply for crisp edges.
  • Choose contrasting paper and banner colours for extra visual impact.

Whether you’re making these boxes for a Christmas table, as stocking fillers, or as a special handmade touch for gift-giving, they are guaranteed to be a hit.

I used the Words of the Season and Traditional Labels stamp sets for the internal and external sentiments, respectively, giving it a crisp and festive feel. The focal point on the front features a beautifully fussy-cut bird from the Nests of Winter DSP. This has been layered over a rustic wood-look panel for extra warmth and texture.

Showcasing the Scenic Inside

The magic of this card really shines when it’s opened—the Tri Fold layout allows the full winter scene to be displayed, complete with delicate snowflakes and beautifully illustrated birds perched among frosted branches. It’s like stepping straight into a snowy woodland.

This Tri Fold Christmas card isn’t just a greeting—it’s a keepsake. The recipient can proudly display it as part of their seasonal décor. The combination of intricate fussy cutting, coordinated stamping, and thoughtfully chosen papers makes it both elegant and heartwarming.

I found this idea online. I’ve always made new year mini calendars and sticky note holders but the idea to combine the two is genius. These are easy to make and you can make 3 from 1 A4 sheet. Fabulous. It is also a great way to use up scraps of patterned paper.

Measurements

  • Real Red Cardstock – 8 1/4″ X 3 1/4″. Score on the longer side at 1 1/2″, 1 7/8″, 5 & 5 3/8″
  • Reindeer Fun designer series paper (DSP)
    • 2 7/8″ X 3″ X 1 piece
    • 2 5/8″ X 3″ X 1 piece
    • 1 1/4″ X 3″ X 2 pieces

You can choose your closure, either a magnet or a velcro dot. I’ve used a Velcro dot here. I think these would be lovely table favours for a Christmas or New Year party.

I love this fun pop-out gift card holder. I am a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas. The combination of green and red looks good together. The designer series paper (DSP) is Sentimental Christmas. It reminds me of those Victorian Christmases you see in some films.

You could alter the measurements to use them for gift vouchers instead of a gift card. I loved gift vouchers compared to gift cards. The gift cards can be reused but in reality that doesn’t happen. I have a box full of old ones that I use with my texture paste and reinkers.

I love to make little candy cane holders or pouches. I make them every year. Here is my offering this year. They are easy to make and hold one candy cane, though they could hold more.

They are great for using up scrap pieces of patterned paper which we all have. The snowflakes are the One of a Kind dies and I cut them from the Festive Glimmer Designer Series Paper (DSP).

I found the magnetic pairs for the bookmark online. They are easy to apply and work very well. I like proper books as opposed to digital versions. Yes, they take up more space but I find them easier to read, especially non-fiction.
