At first glance, background stamps can be quite intimidating. They are so big and take up so much space on a card. You can sometimes feel unsure how to use them in a way that doesn’t overpower everything. Tone on tone stamping in the background is a great way to use background stamps. It gives interest in the background but doesn’t detract from the focal image. That is what I’ve done here.

measurements

  • Thick Base White Cardstock – A6 Cardbase – This is an A4 sheet cut in half and then folded in half
  • Crumb Cake – 14.35cm X 10cm – You can cut this further down after stamping.

I love the Gingerbread & Peppermint Designer Series Paper (DSP) as it has all these wonderful images that can easily be cut out to make a ton of embellishments. No need for an extra die cut pack. You can just use what you have already and have coordinating stuff. This paper also comes with a stamp and matching die set that will further extend the life of this collection and give you so many options to create.

I love poinsettias. We have a few in the house. My mother has managed to keep them alive through the whole year and they turn red again in the Christmas period. I always want to buy new ones but we don’t have the space to keep them all alive throughout the whole year. We have some fake ones in three vases on the hall table and they look amazing even if they are fake.

This card is stunning. I love heat embossing. It never loses its magic. This dull powder turning into something glossy and shiny. So pretty!! The sentiment is from the fabulous Holly Jolly Wishes which I am using a lot. I love all the sentiments. They are so versatile for an array of cards, bags, boxes and other projects.

I gutted the green foil sheet with a small stitched rectangular die so that I could save the spare for a future project. As crafters we hate to waste such gorgeous paper, don’t we?

I faffed and faffed with this card. In the end, I am so happy with it. I love this bright Real Red background from the Heartwarming Hugs designer series paper (DSP). It is a lovely contrast against the Shaded Spruce green. I’ve made the background look like a wrapped present using scraps of Shaded Spruce paper.

Each year a group of us do a Christmas Stocking Swap. We purchase or make a stocking and fill it up with crafty goodness. It’s a lovely thing to open on Christmas Day and very much part of my Christmas traditions.

I love stamping my own patterned paper. You can choose your own colours and designs to make a bespoke piece of paper that is unique to you. It is such fun and I should really do it more often.

I’ve used the In Bloom stamp set which with its matching dies, Pierced Blooms are a current staple in my craft room. The colours are my favourite teals of Pool Party, Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay.

My mother loves robins. They come so close as she is working in the garden, cocking their little heads, waiting for a juicy worm. Robins are very much associated with Christmas. I love cards with robins. Their little redbreasts are so bright in the dull days of winter.

I coloured this fellow with watercolour pencils. I love water colouring, it is the way I first tried to paint. Watercolouring is very forgiving. Take your time and build up the layer of colours and you are good to go.

Gosh, I’m so pleased with how this turned out. I wanted to make this card ever since I first saw the Candy Canes stamp set in the catalogue. The contrast between the white heat embossing and the red background is so striking.

Heat embossing is very easy to do but always feels like magic to me. This dull powder becomes glossy and beautiful as it melts under the heat tool. To make this card I used a larger panel than I needed of real red so that I could cut it down to get or of any imperfections around the edges. Please do watch the video and try it yourself. Enjoy the magic!!!

I love to colour. It is so therapeutic. I’ve started to listen to audiobooks as I colour and am loving it. Such a pleasant and relaxing way to spend a few hours. I used the Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers here to colour in. The more I do the better I think I’m becoming at blending.

I’ve used quite a few colours here. For the red, I used both Cherry Cobbler and Real Red and again I used both Old Olive and Mossy Meadow for the green. It just gave me a bigger variety of shading possibilities.

Aren’t these deer so cute? Two are punched out of the sparkly gold and rose coloured metallic paper. The last one is stamped and punched out. I love punches. They are so easy to use and require no other equipment. Kids can even use them under supervision.

This card reminds me of the reindeer parade that used to happen in Lincoln pre-pandemic. I actually always felt sorry for the deer stuck in their little enclosure as everyone gawked at them. They were on view in the St Marks area of Lincoln for the afternoon before Father Christmas took them through town in the evening on parade. It was wonderful for the children though. It was pure magic to them, bless their hearts.
